Tech Support Monkeys

I know Cody has had his fair share of horror stories with tech support. I can even recall the one time at work last year I posed as “my manager” on the phone when the lady at Dell wouldn’t believe me. People always get scared of authority and she started listening before the connection went dead and I had to call back. It wasn’t fun. But today brings a whole new level of stupidity upon me.

I was trying to print index cards for my Hipster PDA today using the templates some kind soul created. I always have pen and paper with me and I never liked a conventional Palm Pilot anyways. Long story short, I couldn’t get my printer to print the index cards correctly after fudging around with all the paper setup and poking through their crappy FAQ. Then I thought I might as well send an email to Canon explaining the situation. So I fill out the form and take the time to give as much detail as possible. Three years of doing the same thing at Berkeley gives you a need to be detailed. And then I got a reply two hours later.

1. Click on Start.
2. Click on Settings (Control Panel for Windows XP).

I am so happy I got directions for Windows XP since I explicitly said I ran OS X in the body of the email and also on the dropdown menu for Operating System. Ugh. Maybe he is new. I don’t even have a single Windows XP machine in my house. I now know Canon, Dell and SBC tech support sucks. Take note kids.
